Statistics recently released by the Government showed that bingo halls are very much in the decline. While it is nothing new to the industry the level of decline is recent years should be of concern.
The numbers show that since 1997 the number of bingo clubs in the UK has fallen from 650 to 460. It should be noted that the majority of the decline has happened in the last few years since the ban on smoking in public places. While overall that statistics show a 29% drop in the number of bingo clubs the reality is that over 20% of this has more than likely occured in the last 2-3 years.
The Daily Mail that published the results also suggested that Hospitals and Post Offices were also on the decline. Casinos were up by 27%, bettings shops and dancing clubs had also benefit in increasing numbers.
