Mecca Bingo club site is to be turned into 76 homes. The submitted plans in relation to the 2,300 square metre site have been given the go-ahead.
Councillors at Wednesday's sustainable development committee (SDC) meeting approved the latest proposals for a new development of homes.
The new building, on London Road, Hounslow, will range in height from three to eight stories and have at least 50 per cent affordable housing. Prior to being demolished the site, east of the bus depot was a cinema between 1930's to the 1960's and then like many cinemas and theatres at the time converted to a bingo club. Mecca Bingo operated the club until 2007.
Initial applications and plans between 2007-2008 were rejected. While a variety of plans were submitted ranging from an 8 storey to one of 15 storeys it took an appeal hearing to approve the smaller of the designs. While the latest design is similar to that of the one submitted at the appeal, the number of homes planned has been reduced from 86 down to 76.
Councillor Sheila O'Reilly, who chaired the SDC meeting, welcomed the new plans and said it would be good to see the site brought back into use. The concillors been pleased that the architects had been willing to consider changes to the 'bog standard' design.
