Bingo companies in the UK could be on for a flat summer which could actually see a boost in overall income. The summer period has traditionally been a challenging time for bingo clubs as many of the UK bingo players are preparing to set off abroad on their annual holiday
The recent disruption at the airports due to the volcanic ash and the talk of a tough economic period are now causing the public to be a little more conservative on the holiday plans and looking to shorten the holiday time they spend away. Bingo players will not want to see a reduction in their leisure time but not going away could see them spending the time at their local bingo club to keep up the spirits.
Club manager Donna Gray of the Rio Bingo in Canvey Island commented " We have not seen the usual mass exodus as the summer period looms and many of our customers are not commenting as much on holiday plans as they have had in the past", The manager went on to say " Although the figures at this time of year are expected to be flat, we see this as a good thing because we would normally see a bit of a dip which helps. Customers who have travelled are now extremely cautious and saying going on holiday especially abroad is now becoming more of a hassle than a break".
It is still a little too early to tell if the summer will have its usual effect on the bingo industry especially during the six week holiday when child minding can become a bit of an issue, this may be an opportunity for the online industry to market their bingo at a time when bored housewives will be stuck at home looking after their children and grandchildren seeking something other than Jeremy Kyle and Judge Judy to fill in the time. |
