A well known bingo operator has chosen to use Facebook as part of its efforts to raise money for charity. Buckingham Bingo has said that it will be donating £1 for every person that click “like” on their Facebook campaign page. The unique idea is receiving a plenty of support as around 500 people are already fans and the company is hoping that around 5000 people in total show their support. All funds raised from the promotion will go to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity which fights to "save lives and improve futures through research, campaigning and education". The group CEO, Andy Cunningham commented: "Breakthrough is a charity which is particularly close to our hearts." Each year the company takes part in the annual Bingo for Breakthrough fundraising week along with the majority of other bingo club operators. Both staff and players come together to help raise money for the charity. Breakthrough Breast Cancer is one of the UK's leading breast cancer research and support groups. Bucky Bingo has been working with the charity since 2009 and raised more than £20,000 to date. The land base operations of the company, Buckingham Bingo, hosted several money-raising events including raffles, a 22-mile walk and a sponsored leg wax. Since 2002 the bingo industry has raised over £3.2 million for Breakthrough. With 70% of Bingo staff and customers being women, breast cancer is an issue that is close to the hearts of both staff and customers.
